During the summer holidays of 2006 I spent 2.5 weeks in France.

We decided to visit the fields of menhir stones in Bretagne today. At certain areas there are enormous fields with these ancient stones. You can visit most of these fields for free. There are also many legends and stories about these menhirs, but no one knows the truth. As you can see at one of these photos, I'm trying to imitate Obelix, from the Asterix & Obelix comics. Unfortunately that was an impossible job...

After visiting the menhir fields, we continued driving until we arrived at a nearby peninsula on the Atlantic coast. We got out of our car to look at the rough coastline and to smell the sea air. I took a lot of beautiful photos of both the sea and the surrounding area.

The next day we drove inland. After driving for some time we arrived in the medieval village of Malestroit. This is a really nice and picturesque village that is worth visiting.

We took a couple of flyers from the reception desk at the campsite where we were staying in order to get some nice ideas and suggestions on what to do over the next few days. One of these ideas included 'Le Velo Rail', which translates into 'the biketrain' in English. We made our reservations and a couple of days later it was D-day for our trip with the special biketrain. We left in a group from a very small station near the city of Thiviers, with some distance between biketrains. The track is only a single line, so because we started second, we had to wait quite a while at the rest place, after which we returned to Thiviers second last. We spent the break eating a tasty icecream. On our way back to Thiviers we went pretty fast downhill, gaining quite a serious speed. We 'biked' through old tunnels and over bridges and we also pedalled through a nice picturesque station. As cars have priority over these bikes on rails, we had to handle the crossing barriers. It was easy to lift them, then we had to push our bike to the other side, lift another barrier before we could continue our trip. This was all really nice! In the Photo album you can see various photos that my sister took with her digital camera during our trip. Because I didn't take mine, I'd like to thank her for allowing me to use her photos. Thanks!

The night before we left the campsite to go back home, I took a couple of beautiful photos.
